Our hike into the jungle found us at what may have been a sacred Taino indian site.  These petroglyphs are believed to have been carved by these precolumbian people about a thousand years ago.  We had petroglyphs in Alaska as well, and more often than not, were also near water.  This pool by evening will be deluged by the local bats coming to look for fresh water.  The Taino's revered the bat in their religion and you will often find petroglyphs of humans sporting a bat's nose.
