Nike Missile Site
High up in Arctic Valley just north of Anchorage was one of only 2 missile sites (White Sands, N.M. is the other) in the country in the 1960's that actively shot off missles about 6 times a year. It's unbelievably remote and only 3 groups this year will be allowed by the military to view its remains. The site was decomissioned in 1979.
Missile bunkers which are also in the press release below.
One of the now shuttered radars.
While we were up there we got a surprise flyby of a T-6 Harvard which was used as a trainer for fighter pilots in WWII, courtesy of the local CAF (Commemorative Air Force).
The missile bunker (lower right) as it looks now featured in the press release above.

Buenos Aires, Argentina---last day of the trip
Not sure why the police were out in front of city hall in riot gear. Some suspected something was being voted on that might upset the general populace. I suspect this is fairly common.
La Chacra is one of the best places in town for good typical Argentine barbeque. Danny had some of the best kid goat we've ever eaten.
The horse is real. Make that...WAS real.
The local theater.
One of the world's most famous necropolises is in Recoleta in the heart of Buenos Aires. Here there are literally thoroughfares and streets of mausoleums housing the Who's Who of Argentina. Evita Peron is somewhere around here. But after walking for an hour and a half I gave up trying to find her.
Everything here from the sublime...
to the simple.
Finally, I had to try the barnacles. They are huge and....
oh so delicious. Tastes like a cross between sea urchin and scallops.
